Grand Master Hahn Offering Private Lessons to a Chosen Few
At the International Martial Arts Center in New York City, Grand Master Andrew Hahn is opening two private training, opportunities for adults who are looking for something beyond ordinary martial arts instruction.
These private lessons are not simply additional classes. They are an opportunity to study martial arts personally with a Grand Master who has devoted more than 50 years to martial arts and over 30 years to teaching.
Because of the time, concentration, and individual attention required, Grand Master Hahn accepts only a limited number of private students. At this time, he is looking for two additional students who are serious about developing a deeper understanding of martial arts.
Martial Arts Is More Than Learning Techniques
A punch may appear simple. A kick may appear simple. A block or movement in a form may appear simple.
But beneath every effective martial arts technique are details that can take years to recognize and understand.
How relaxed should the body be before impact? When should tension occur? How does breathing affect power? How does a small adjustment in alignment change an entire technique? How do timing, balance, momentum, body weight, focus, and flow work together?
These are the details that often separate simply performing a technique from truly understanding it.
In private training, Grand Master Hahn works directly with the individual student to uncover these deeper layers. Sometimes a very small correction—a change in posture, relaxation, timing, breathing, or body position—can completely change how a movement feels and performs.
Those moments of discovery are an important part of private martial arts training.
Training Built Around You
No two martial artists are exactly alike.
Every student brings a different body, background, level of experience, strengths, weaknesses, habits, and goals. That is why private instruction with Grand Master Hahn is highly individualized.
Depending upon the student, private training may explore traditional Taekwondo techniques and forms, Hapkido principles and applications, body mechanics and alignment, relaxation and tension, breathing and focus, balance, timing, distance, rhythm, generation of power, momentum, body weight, coordination, flow, and the practical principles behind traditional movements.
For an experienced martial artist, this can mean revisiting familiar techniques and discovering details that were previously overlooked.
For a serious beginner, it can mean developing a strong foundation from the beginning—learning not only what to do, but why it works.
Specialized Martial Arts Weapons Training
For qualified students, Grand Master Hahn also offers specialized private weapons training.
Weapons training is a different dimension of martial arts study. It requires a heightened understanding of distance, timing, coordination, control, precision, movement, and concentration.
Rather than simply memorizing a weapons form, the student learns to understand how the weapon relates to the movement of the entire body. Grip, alignment, footwork, direction, momentum, transitions, and control all become part of one coordinated action.
Under Grand Master Hahn’s individual instruction, weapons training can be studied and refined in detail—something that is particularly well suited to the private lesson environment.
Because of the specialized nature of this training, weapons instruction is offered according to the student’s experience, ability, and readiness and is incorporated into an individualized program when appropriate.
You Do Not Have to Be an Advanced Martial Artist
Private training is not limited to black belts or longtime practitioners.
A sincere beginner may be an excellent candidate.
What matters most is your attitude toward learning.
If you are curious, receptive to detailed instruction, willing to practice, and interested in understanding martial arts rather than simply collecting techniques or belts, private instruction may be appropriate for you.
Likewise, experienced martial artists from other schools or backgrounds may benefit from studying with Grand Master Hahn if they are looking for a fresh perspective and deeper examination of their movement and technique.
The First Step Is a Personal Consultation
Grand Master Hahn does not automatically accept every applicant for private instruction.
Before beginning training, prospective students will meet with him personally.
The consultation is an opportunity to discuss your martial arts background, previous training, goals, interests, and what you hope to gain from private lessons. It also gives Grand Master Hahn an opportunity to determine whether his approach to teaching is a good match for what you are seeking.
Private instruction requires a significant commitment from both teacher and student.
The objective is not simply to fill an appointment on the schedule. It is to create a productive teacher-student relationship in which genuine learning and development can take place.
More Than 50 Years of Martial Arts Knowledge—Taught One-on-One
After more than five decades in martial arts, Grand Master Hahn’s knowledge comes not only from techniques he has learned, but from decades of practicing, teaching, observing students, correcting movement, and continually examining the principles behind martial arts.
Private instruction provides the time to share that knowledge in a way that is difficult to reproduce in a group class.
A question can be explored.
A movement can be repeated.
A small detail can be isolated.
A technique can be examined from several different perspectives until the student begins to understand not simply the movement, but the principle behind it.
The goal is not to overwhelm the student with information.
The goal is understanding.
Only Two Private Training Openings Are Currently Available.
Because Grand Master Hahn personally conducts these sessions and each student receives detailed individual attention, the number of private students he can accept is intentionally limited.
Two private training openings are currently available.
If you are an adult in New York City looking for private martial arts lessons, private Taekwondo Hapkido, instruction, specialized martial arts weapons training, traditional martial arts training, or one-on-one instruction that goes beyond simply learning techniques, you are invited to contact the International Martial Arts Center to request a personal consultation with Grand Master Hahn.
The consultation will help determine whether this training is the right fit for you—and whether you are the right fit for this type of training.
For the right student, it can be an opportunity to discover an entirely new level of understanding in martial arts.
